Our competitiveness and appeal to the entire society will be reflected in our future. We, the ICT business community, are looking for visible, tangible, and quick steps forward that shift our focus to the interests of the society, economy, and citizens. We are prepared to offer help in that, to be a part of it, a part of the change.
This is only an excerpt from the introductory speech given by Plamenko Barišić, KING ICT CEO, at the KING ICT 11th Business-Information Conference Open Integrations Day, bringing together several hundred managers and management board members of prestigious private and public companies, influential businesspeople and experts, and representatives of public and state administrations.
According to the WEF list, Croatia is 94th when it comes to the importance of ICT in national plans, in a modern world where the business and technological paradigm is digital transformation.
This is the reason behind the title and topics of this year's conference TIME OF GREAT CHANGES – Digital (and all other) Transformation, which is organized by KING ICT. The new assistant to the Administration Minister for e-Croatia, Bernard Gršić, announced that there are short-term action plans focused on what can be of great interest to the citizens and economy – a detailed informatisation of public administration, since it is becoming its modern service.
Are we ready for creativity and new innovations in different areas? What will happen during this time of changing services and consumers, offers and expectations, as well as management types?
This is the topic of the lecture How to become a Leader in Digital Transformation by Martin Born, manager of the prestigious international consultant house, Arthur D. Little, which specialises in strategy and operation management. Digitalisation is a topic on everybody's minds, but nobody is really prepared for it, says Martin Born, in his elaboration on the research his house conducted on numerous companies. For now, most companies are digitally adaptable, a portion are digitally aware, a smaller part is digitally oriented, and only a few are focused. It is interesting that one of the main challenges to companies is the lack of all required knowledge and process complexity, while many are of the opinion that it is not an urgent issue.
Managers who experience market and technology changes on a daily basis gathered at the roundtable discussion Digitalna transformacija – il' se skloni ili se pokloni (Digital Transformation – Step Aside or Adapt) moderated by Miodrag Šajatović, Editor in Chief of the Lider. Irena Langer Breznik, eKupi CEO, emphasised the importance of a well-planned strategy and the stress placed on quality in digitalisation, and Boris Trupčevć, StyriaMedia Group Croatia CEO, agreed with that statement. By stating that the consumption of digital media content has jumped from 3% to 40% in a span of just a few years, and along with the prediction that it will reach 80% in the following 15 years, Trupčević emphasised that it is important to notice the real, important trend. What are the current megatrends? Those are most certainly mobile platforms, personalisation of individual user experience, and video content.
Dimitrije Trbović, AutoZubak Management Board President, spoke about the positive experiences and the ambition behind his company that initiated its own service platform. He is of the opinion that the auto-industry, in general, falls behind costumer communication trends, which explains why it cannot create new customer experiences, which is characteristic of the digital era.
Boris Bauk, HP Enterprise Hrvatska CEO, provided an interesting image of the change in Hewlett Packard when it issued a major strategy decision, i.e. splitting the company into two parts before entering the cloud. It is now apparent that it was a successful adaptation to the new demands in the market and customers who can now have service delivery in a very short time, and in a new manner through demands prediction before the actual order is placed.
Tomislav Radoš from the Centre for Industrial Development of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce said that the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, with over 120,000 clients, has no other perspective but to transfer 90% of its activities online.
Dejan Vinković, PhD, Astrophysicist and Head of the Science and Society Synergy Institute, held an interesting lecture on what is happening to us in an era of vast amounts of data. We are experiencing everything: we research, learn, we understand in a different way because we have an unbelievable amount of all possible information at our disposal. The problem is that it is not worthwhile on its own if it is not connected into finer information that can become the foundation of a quality decision.
A special and perpetually appealing part of the conference is the DEMO room, where the best solutions and projects implemented by the KING ICT on its clients, is presented.
This year, for the first time in Croatia, the most modern device in the world for scanning people was presented, Provision 2 by L3. We could look and study in person how it worked on the principle of Active Millimetre Wave technology. A rotating pair of transmitters (360°) emits low-energy electromagnetic waves in that kind of device. The waves reflect from a person's body placed in a stationary position with hands raised. The rotating pair of receivers (physically placed on the same moveable part as the transmitters) receives the reflected signal based on which, in interaction with the ART software, a potential threat is identified. The device radiation is non-ionising, and almost identical to the one in mobile phones. Since a person being scanned by this device is in one position only during the entire inspection, this enables a faster flow of people through checkpoints. An inspection takes up to only 6 seconds, including a person entering and leaving the scan. This device can be used not only in airports, but also in all institutions that require increased security and control.
KING Geoportal – the GIS WEB new generation browser, enables examination and analysis of spatial information from different systems within the scope of a company. It enables fast and efficient analysis of various aspects of spatial information and whose functionality includes: a universal browser, a 3D examiner, a tool for comparison of different machines, a tool for examining the change of data through time, and for a comparison of data from different points in time. Geoportal is also a highly efficient collaboration platform for a fast and simple exchange of spatial information – sharing a current map view, drawn areas, or marks on a map via e-mail, social networks, QR codes, and the like. Based on the latest technologies (OL3, AngularJS, D3, etc.), it has adaptable design, especially for mobile devices, including the possibility of working with offline maps.
How many times has your internet connection failed right before you wanted to send an offer to a very important client? Or an application for salary calculation “froze” on pay day? Business without impediments is the name we have given to the business and IT solution that records impediments based on applications, enabling their solutions and providing management with information for quick reactions and decisions. The solution enables a view of the entire business in one place, detects deviations, problems, malfunctions, and disturbances. The solution is based on the KING Service Lifecycle platform developed in KING ICT.
E-learning is a concept of education with the help of IT, or a management system for e-learning. The advantage of e-learning is education of a large number of employees/students (100+) at the same time in different locations; education time adapted to work, without the need to leave one’s workplace; saving on costs for official e-learning trips to other cities; quick distribution of knowledge and the simple option of frequent education sessions; quick and easy administration; the possibility of tracking and measuring activities on content, and exams. E-content provides a universal and multimedia display of materials, animated examples, and audio-visual interactive simulations for accomplishing a better grasp on, and memorisation of, the materials. KING ICT offers e-learning with the support of the LMS Mentor 2.0 system for e-learning management, enabling distribution of digital educational content, and organization and implementation of learning and studying via a computer.
A System for Announcing Visitors is a solution for controlled recording of visitors and implementing visit authorisation procedures within a company. The system enables exacting control over the announcement of visitors, visit authorisation, and access control through integration with the IMCS system. Records of visitors arriving and departing, e-mail notifications announcing visitors, access control over specific areas, announcement of group visits by creating a unique bar code label for each visitor, and automatic escalation in case of a deadline being breached for visit authorisation, are just some advantages of this solution.
Also, this year we have presented advanced integration solutions to technical security systems with a range of technological innovations – from the newest generation of network cameras with an entire integrated display and interaction with the system intrusion detection, access control, and records before visitor announcement, to a new central monitoring application – which is called KING Situation Management.
A special presentation was made for advanced integration with a system for reading RFID biometric identification and travel documentation, and data integration in a central monitoring system.
Attention was drawn to the solution by the company FireEye, which enables the detection and blocking of advanced malware threats and malware activity, first and foremost focused on zero day vulnerability, the existence and activity of which cannot be detected by standard anti-virus methods and tools.
Visitors were able to see many technological innovations in planning and constructing data centres, among other things, fast and flexible systems for structural calibration, surveillance software which displays in real time, via 3D visualisation, an entire data centre infrastructure and data centre principles for energy efficiency.
